9/25/2018	Mr. Stolle, 3162 County Highway 27, Radcliffe, called for information about a new CAFO that he heard was going to built near his residence. He told me the location and that it was going to be owned by Iowa Select Farms (ISF). He claims to already have six CAFO's within one mile of his residence. He had contacted Hardin County and they had told him to call IDNR in Mason City. He wanted to know what he could do to stop construction of this CAFO. I told him that the application is still under review and that, unfortunately, there was very little that he would be able to do to stop it if it meets all separation distances. I recommended talking his county supervisor or state legislators. He told me that would do no good because all those folks get campaign contributions from these large hog growers. He asked if he could pull his trailer down to the corner of his property and live in it then that would be a residence that would too close to the site. I explained the definition of a residence and that a trailer parked in the corner of the field would not meet that definition. He then asked if he bought the neighbors abandoned house across the road and lived in that could that stop it. I told him that was his decision but he would have to establish his residence prior to the approval of the CDS. Later I found out that this CDS application had been withdrawn due to failure to meet separation to a residence but ISF will likely submit it again in a different location in the same neighborhood.
