We had a report today about some dead fish in a city owned recreation pond inFairfield. Someone had seen dead fish last Friday but we received a report today. The pond is a former water supply for the city but is now strictly for recreation. There is a residential area nearby. Staff found several dozen dead bluegills but also observed other live fish in the pond. There could be more dead fish but long grass prevented easy observation. Ammonia levels are negative, DO was 8 plus, temp around 82F and Ph normal. Fisheries attribute kill to spawning stress.
