Highlighted river segments indicate those impacted in part or whole by this fish kill event. It is not meant to represent the actual extent of the kill.
Paul Sleeper and Mike Wade checked out the reported fish kill yesterday. Paul found a total of 15 dead trout, and we both observed numerous live fish. It appeared that a few fish may have been dead before the reported discoloration of the stream. The discoloration appeared to originate from one of the large storm water culverts that enter the stream. It appeared to me that the discoloration was from leaf litter that had been decomposing in the storm water collection system and the recent rains had flushed the material out. Ammonia can be present when leaf litter decomposes. CR is attempting to educate people not to put leaves into the street to help prevent the leaves from entering the storm drains. It did not appear to Paul that there was a significant fish "kill".
