DNR investigated a reported fish kill on Thursday, finding about 200 dead carp and buffalo throughout Snyder Bend Lake near Salix.

Because other fish species appear to be healthy, it is most likely that spawning stress caused the limited kill, and it is not a water quality issue.

The lake is about 18 inches low, following inflowing water from the Missouri River being shut off for about two weeks to prevent muddy waters from entering the lake. That water supply has been restored and should increase water levels and help prevent additional stress, according to Lannie Miller, fisheries biologist at the Lake View DNR office.
