Onsite Comments

Hog manure from sow facility entered an unnamed intermittent creek in Sec 13 Centennial Township, Lyon Co. The unnamed creek transported the hog manure approximately 1 mile where it outlets to Plum Creek. Plum Creek empties into the Big Sioux River, which flows into the Missouri River. Dead minnows and chubs were observed in the unnamed creek but not in Plum Creek. Temporary measures by the facility such as building 3-4 dikes across the waterway were implemented to further reduce the impact. Coop is a 2500 head sow plus 850 head gilt developer unit. Hog facility is total confinement with below building concrete pit manure storage.
