Highlighted river segments indicate those impacted in part or whole by this fish kill event. It is not meant to represent the actual extent of the kill.
The loss of fish occurred as a result of a discharge of cattle manure from an open feed lot. Received a call this afternoon of dead fish in the Willow Creek at a bridge located at 450th Street and 180th Avenue in Clay County. I investigated and found approx 400 dead minnows, 25 dead bullheads, and 1 dead northern pike. The other fish were stressed and swimming towards to surface. Pictures were taken. Field test kit showed no D.O., ammonia of 12.5 mg/l, and water temp of 12 C at the bridge located at 450th Street and 180th Avenue.
