Highlighted river segments indicate those impacted in part or whole by this fish kill event. It is not meant to represent the actual extent of the kill.
Ammonia toxicity associated with manure run-off originating in Section 24, T86N, R3E. The DNR traced the pollutant to the 200-head Feedlot where high ammonia levels were flowing into an unnamed tributary of the creek. Owner immediately stopped the discharge when DNR contacted him. Recently received laboratory results verified ammonia levels of 1,500 parts per million entering the tributary. Dead fish were found from Section 26, T86N, R3E downstream to Section 2, T85N, R3E of Jackson County. The length of stream where dead fish were assessed was 3.54 miles (18,742 feet).
