Onsite Comments

A leak from an outdoor concrete manure storage tank appears to have caused the fish kill reported yesterday afternoon. The drainage tile line located near the leaking manure tank has been plugged, which should stop the discharge of manure to the unnamed tributary of the South Skunk River. DNR Fisheries staff are conducting a count of the dead fish and will return to the site tomorrow. The kill in the South Skunk River has extended south of Story City, impacting more than five stream miles.
