A fish kill was reported to FO Friday evening. Morwood Campground, approximately 3 miles south of Hazleton, Buchanan County had reported dead fish in a stream. Observed dead fish (small numbers of minnows) in the approximately 2 miles of stream (most of its length), sections 28 and 34 of Hazleton Township. No ammonia was detected and waters appeared clear or slightly turbid. Campground operator eported the stream had become cloudy Friday afternoon following several inches of rain. The intermittent stream drains corn and bean fields and a number of tiles/culverts are at the headwaters. Two farmers were interviewed who noted that the ag chemical, Headline, had recently been applied to most of the surrounding crop fields. They stated the applications had occurred by aerial and field applicators beginning the previous Friday and concluded on Wednesday, August 5th. Otter Creek was inspected and no dead fish were observed.
