Onsite Comments

O'Brien CCB notified DNRof a fish kill that occurred over the weekend at Mill Creek Lake. They spent yesterday cleaning the fish up. All of the fish were adult common carp. They reported around 200.

Sick and slow-moving fish observed May 31st. Most died over the weekend, and no mortalities since. From the outward appearance, clinical signs suggest SVC (Spring Viremia of Carp). SVC is a viral infection that is foreign to the United States, but has been spreading quickly. It is known to only affect a few species of fish and no other native species in the area should be impacted. From our experience, SVC burns through the population very quickly.

No sick or dying fish at this time, so we'll probably be unable to send a specimen to the University of Minnesota where testing and tracking is done
