Highlighted river segments indicate those impacted in part or whole by this fish kill event. It is not meant to represent the actual extent of the kill.
Summary: this fish kill was not thought to be a 'natural' fish kill due to temperatures, spawning stress, etc. It seems plausible that a pollutant entered the storm sewer system and discharged to Squaw Creek at Memorial Park. Recent rainfall after a lengthy dry period may have flushed the pollutant into Squaw Creek. The pollutant seems to have moved through the segment of Squaw Creek with dead fish prior to my arrival. The storm sewer that discharges at Memorial Park drains residential, industrial, and agricultural areas, and therefore, there are many potential sources of the fish kill. Despite investigating several potential sources of the fish kill and obtaining a water sample of some suspect water, the cause of the fish kill could not be determined.
