The last day to submit a special event application is 30 days prior to the event's start date. Special Events must adhere to the 30-day stipulation policy. A non-refundable administrative processing fee of $25.00 will be assessed upon submission if required for that event type. Authorization letters/emails must be available on site during the event from the designated event official/responsible party. 
 Once your application is submitted, refunds will not be processed.  The date and location awarded by the DNR are final.  Requests for changes to authorized tournaments due to inclement weather are not normally considered. Requests for changes due to errors within the submitted application are not normally considered after approval.  Requests for changes to authorized tournaments due to ramp closures, park closures, navigation restrictions or similar circumstances will be considered, on a case by case basis, and only if the request is made prior to the event date.   
  • Approval of any tournament application is at the discretion of the fisheries management biologist. The DNR may impose special conditions not specifically covered herein for any fishing tournament if deemed necessary to protect the resource or to assure public safety.  Some guidelines are programmed into the online system, a list of general tournament guidelines are available online: https://www.iowadnr.gov/things-do/fishing/regulations-laws#additional-regulations

These restrictions include, but are not limited to, agreeing that all members participating in the event will practice required physical/social distancing and wear a mask if social distancing is not possible. As the event Sponsor, I further agree to control crowd size to current state-mandated limits on individuals and will provide visual cues to dictate physical/social distancing. The undersigned applicant understands and agrees that neither the State of Iowa nor the Department of Natural Resources shall be responsible for any injury to persons or damage to property arising out of or incidental to the activities which are the subject of this application. The applicant agrees by execution hereof to indemnify and hold harmless the state of Iowa and the Department of Natural Resources against all liabilities, costs and expenses which may arise in consequence of the applicant’s activities related to this application being approved.
