Fishing Forecast

Catches of all fish species were low in 2018. Most bluegills sampled were less than 7-inches long, white crappies were 6- to 8-inches long and channel catfish were 16- to 20-inches long. Only one largemouth bass (18.5-inches long) was captured during spring 2018 electrofishing.(2018)

In nearly all cases, Iowa fish are safe to eat. Cleaning and/or preparing the meal causes most of the problems regarding taste or color of fish. Like all living creatures, fish are susceptible to diseases, parasites, and other naturally occurring conditions in the water. If you suspect your fish is affected by any of these conditions, do not eat it. Consider eating smaller and younger fish which usually have lower levels of contaminants than larger ones.   • 2018 - Survey-Population: An electrofishing survey was conducted in spring 2018 and a baited hoop net survey was conducted in late summer 2018.
  • 2018 - Fish Kills-Dissolved Oxygen: The pond suffered a partial fish kill in late July/early August 2018. Dissolved oxygen concentrations were less than 2 mg/L throughout the entire water column in mid August 2018.
  • 2016 - Survey-Population: An electrofishing survey was conducted in spring 2016.
  • 2014 - Survey-Population: A fishery standard survey was done with electofishing and fyke netting gears.
  • 2012 - Survey-Population: A fishery trend survey was done with electofishing and fyke netting gears.
