Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC)-Calmar Campus renovated this 1.7 acre campus pond and installed several Best Management Practices within the watershed with help from the Winneshiek County Natural Resource Conservation Service in early 2015. After the pond filled, 3,000 (2-inch) bluegill and 36 (7-inch) channel catfish were stocked in late September 2015. In July 2016, 210 fingerling largemouth bass were stocked. In nearly all cases, Iowa fish are safe to eat. Cleaning and/or preparing the meal causes most of the problems regarding taste or color of fish. Like all living creatures, fish are susceptible to diseases, parasites, and other naturally occurring conditions in the water. If you suspect your fish is affected by any of these conditions, do not eat it. Consider eating smaller and younger fish which usually have lower levels of contaminants than larger ones.
