Tigges Pond (Willey) offers a secluded fishing experience. It's a longer walk into the pond, which was built in 2011. Bluegill, largemouth bass and channel catfish were stocked after completion of construction. Recent sampling efforts show a good population of bluegill with a lot of 8-inch fish. During the spawn, target the east side of the pond where pea gravel was placed for spawning substrate. Later in the summer target the habitat structures made of recycled pallets in the deeper part of the lake. The largemouth bass size structure is desirable with many 10- to 14-inch fish with some over 15-inches. Channel catfish are stocked on a regular basis and the fish from the original stocking should be well over 2 to 3 pounds. - Last updated on 01/14/2019.

In nearly all cases, Iowa fish are safe to eat. Cleaning and/or preparing the meal causes most of the problems regarding taste or color of fish. Like all living creatures, fish are susceptible to diseases, parasites, and other naturally occurring conditions in the water. If you suspect your fish is affected by any of these conditions, do not eat it. Consider eating smaller and younger fish which usually have lower levels of contaminants than larger ones. Most contaminants accumulate in larger, older fish. For additional information, check out our resources for eating and cooking Iowa caught fish.
