Why did the occurrence happen:	investigation revealed that an extruder knife blade broke due to stress and a piece traveled through the system and became lodged in a rotary valve fan. This caused the processing cyclone to fill up and shut itself down. When automatic restart initiated, processed product within the system built up in the cyclone and discharged into the atmosphere at emission point 59 - 12. We believe this condition existed for approximately 12 minutes.
What was done to stop the occurence:	The system was shut down immediately upon discovery. Initiated procedural change for operators to walk entire system if rotary valve alarm occurs.
