The fish kill occurred in Section 32, T89N, R1E, Dubuque County and originated from manure overflow in Section 4, T88N, R1E, Dubuque County (as identified by Iowa DNR ESD). The length of stream assessed for fish kill was 1.12 miles (5,900 feet)—beginning at the confluence of the Little Maquoketa River and the unnamed tributary in the NW 1/4 of section 32 and continuing upstream on the unnamed tributary until a farm access road was intersected in the SE 1/4 of section 32. Ammonia toxicity associated with a manure release from a livestock producer in the N 1/2 of Section 4, T88N, R1E, Dubuque County as determined by Iowa DNR Environmental Services staff.
