Onsite Comments

Cause is unknown, but an algal die-off may have been the reason.

FO Observations:

  • I observed several hundred dead blue gills and crappies along the north shore
  • There was a relatively large amount of vegetation floating near the north shore
  • The water temperature was 74 degrees F; the pH was ~ 9 SU; and the DO level was low next to shore (~3 mg/L) and higher (~11 mg/L) about 8 feet out in the open water
  • There are several open cattle feedlots in the area; though I did not see any evidence of runoff from these lots to this pond, I will have FO4 Animal Feeding Operation staff visit these facilities to provide technical assistance, if needed
