The ESD responded to a fish kill report on Saturday, August 5th . Fisheries staff conducted their investigation on August 7th . Fisheries left the office at 2:45 PM and returned at 5:00 PM and drove a total of 61 miles. A total of 24 dead fish were identified. Fisheries staff conducted a complete enumeration of dead fish via boat. The water was a deep green color indicating an algae bloom. An oxygen profile was taken and DO levels near the surface were super saturated. At 8 feet deep conditions were hypoxic (0.16 ppm). It’s possible that an algae bloom could be what caused the fish kill, but water testing by ESD also showed small amounts of a fungicide that is classified as very toxic to aquatic organisms. It’s unlikely that a responsible party will be identified.
