Reason
Not in Surface Water Classification (SWC) document. Almost the entirety of the waterbody is in the Mesqwaki settlement, so IADNR will never assess this segment, as it doesn't have primacy on tribal land.
Segment Memos
6/12/2020
Due to changes in Iowa’s surface water classification approved by U.S. EPA in 2008, this segment has presumptive Class A1 primary contact recreation and Class BWW1 warmwater aquatic life designated uses. According to Iowa Water Quality Standards, all perennial streams and intermittent streams with perennial pools that are not specifically listed in the Iowa surface water classification are designated as Class A1 and Class BWW1 waters.

Narrative

[Note: Prior to the 2008 Section 305(b) cycle, this stream segment was classified only for general uses. Due to changes in Iowa’s surface water classification that were approved by U.S. EPA in February 2008 (see http://www.iowadnr.com/water/standards/files/06mar_swc.pdf), this segment is now presumptively designated for Class A1 (primary contact recreation) uses and for Class B(WW1) aquatic life uses. According to the Iowa Water Quality Standards, all perennial rivers and streams and all intermittent streams with perennial pools that are not specifically listed in the Iowa surface water classification are designated as Class A1 and Class B(WW1) waters. Thus, for the current (2010) assessment, perennial flow is presumed, and the available water quality monitoring data will be compared to the applicable Class A1 and Class B(WW1) water quality criteria.] SUMMARY/EXPLANATION: The presumptive Class A1 (primary contact recreation) uses and the presumptive Class B(WW1) aquatic life uses are “not assessed” due to the lack of information upon which to base an assessment. Although sampling was conducted in 2006 on this stream by USGS, only two samplings were conducted (August and November) at USGS station 05451765. This amount of data can not support an accurate assessment of the degree to which the presumptive Class A1 and Class B(WW1) uses might be supported. Note: USGS issued a report in 2009 summarizing water quality for this stream and other streams sampled in 2006 on the Meskwaki Indian Reservation (see http://pubs.usgs.gov/sir/2009/5105/).
