Basis for Assessment

Reviewed results of runoff sampling conducted on May 28 and July 1, 1996 by DNR/LTRMP staff from Bellevue for information to base an assessment of the Class B(WW) uses.  Study results show that the Lytle Creek watershed is one of the six subwatersheds of the Maquoketa River basin that eventually contribute the highest amounts of total suspended soilds and nutrients (phosphorus) to the Maquoketa R.   Under guidance of the Maquoketa River Alliance, several groups (e.g., NRCS and county extension) are working to address problems with nonpoint source contributions of suspended solids and nutrients (phosphorus).   Despite relatively high levels of suspended solids and nutrients in this stream, no sampling was conducted to determine whether the Class B(WW) aquatic life uses are being impaired.   Thus, continue to not develop an assessment of support of the aquatic life uses in this segment.   Additional monitoring is needed to determine whether the Class B(WW) aquatic life uses in this reach are impaired.
