Stream use assessment.

Basis for Assessment

Used a review of the field sheets from the October 1990 DNR stream use assessments in Jefferson County to continue to assess support of the Class B(LR) aquatic life uses as FST due to (1) presence of a majority of the expected fish taxa (6 of 8 at both sites) for streams in the Southern Iowa Rolling Loess Prairies subecoregion (47f) and (2) indications of relatively good quality aquatic habitats with no significant impacts to the physcial characteristics of this stream.   Fish community diversity was relatively low for this subregion, with 8 species from 4 families and 6 species from 3 families collected at the two assessment sites.   While somewhat low, the species present are those that typcially occur in Class B(LR) streams of this subregion; no WQ impairment is indicated or suspected.   The data upon which this assessment is based are more than 5 years old.   Additional monitoring is needed to update this assessment.
