Assessment Comments
Assessment is based on resutls of the 1995 UHL survey of water supply reservoirs (Miller and Kennedy 1995).
Basis for Assessment
SUMMARY: The Class B(LW) aquatic life uses and fish consumption uses both remain "not assessed" due to the lack of information upon which to base an assessment. The Class C (drinking water) uses remain assessed (evaluated) as "fully supported / threatened" based on results of a UHL study of water supply reservoirs in 1995.
EXPLANATION: The Class B(LW) uses remain "not assessed" due to the lack of recent water quality information upon which to base an assessments. This lake is not part of the ongoing statewide survey of 132 Iowa lakes from 2000-2004 conducted by Iowa State University.
The Class C (drinking water) uses remain assessed (evaluated) as "fully supported / threatened" based on results of sampling conducted by UHL in January 1995 (see assessment for the 1996 report). However, because these data are now considered too old (greater than five years) to accurately characterize current water quality conditions, the assessment category is changed from "monitored" (indicating an assessment with relatively high confidence) to "evaluated" (indicating an assessment with relatively low confidence).
Fish consumption uses remain "not assessed" due to the lack of fish contaminant monitoring at this lake.
