Assessment Comments

Assessment is based on results of monitoring in 1990 and surveys by IDNR Fisheries Bureau.

Basis for Assessment

Both swimmable and fishable uses were assessed as FST for the following reasons:  (1) BPJ of DNR Fisheries; (2) results of monitoring in 1990 show that average levels of secchi depth, chl-a, total-P, and TSS are better than overall averages for the 116 SPOLs sampled in 1990 and 1992; all parms are in the middle of the range of the overall mean +/- 1 SD; (3) this relatively small impoundment has a relatively low sedimentation rate and long life expectancy (163 years); (4) fishkills are not a problem; (5) Bachmann et al.  (1994) report relatively high useage for both fishing and swimming.   Thus, lake has above average water quality for SPOLs in Iowa and receives considerable use for fishing and swimming.   Lake appears only slightly threatened from ag-related sedimentation.
