Assessment Comments

Assessment is based on results of IDNR monthly fixed monitoring station near Maquoketa in 2000 & 2001. See attached document for details.

Basis for Assessment

SUMMARY:  The Class B(WW) aquatic life uses remain assessed as "fully supporting / threatened."  The fish consumption uses remain "not assessed."  This assessment is based on results of IDNR ambient monthly monitoring near Maquoketa (station 10490001; formerly station 290120).    EXPLANATION:  Results of water quality monitoring at the DNR monthly station near Maquoketa show no violations of Class B(WW) water quality criteria for pH, dissolved oxygen, or ammonia-nitrogen in the 24 samples collected during the October 1999 to September 2001 biennial period.   In addition, no violations of Class B(WW) chronic water quality criteria occurred in the four samples analyzed for toxic metals during this biennial period.   No fish kills were reported for this river segment during 2000 or 2001.   Thus, continue to assess the aquatic life uses as "fully supported / threatened."   The fish consumption uses are "not assessed" due to lack of recent fish contaminant monitoring in this river reach.
