Stream use assessment in Jasper County.

Basis for Assessment

Used a review of the field sheet from the October 1992 DNR stream use assessment in Jasper County to continue to assess support of the Class B(LR) aquatic life uses as FST due to (1) presence of a majority of the expected fish taxa (5 of 8) for streams in the Mississippi River portion of the Southern Iowa Rolling Loess Prairies subecoregion (47f) and (2) presence of above average habitat quality, with diverses substrates, several pool/riffle sequences, and lack of significant impacts to the physical characteristics of this stream.   Results of sampling for the fish community indicated relatively low diversity, with only 7 cyprinids reported.   As noted on field sheet, snags and rocks hindered seining.   Additional monitoring is needed to better define the status of the aquatic communities of this stream.
