Basis for Assessment

SUMMARY:  The Class B(LR) aquatic life uses were considered "not assessed."  EXPLANATION:  The existing water quality data from the two primary sources of biological information used to develop the previous water quality assessments for this river reach are now considered too old (greater than five years) for developing an assessment of support of the Class B(LR) aquatic life uses.   The biological monitoring conducted for the DNR stream use assessments on Calmus Creek were conducted in 1992.   The water quality study conducted on Calmus Creek by GZA GeoEnvironmental for Holnam, Inc., was completed in 1994.   The chemical and/or biological data from either of these sources is of marginal use for characterizing current water quality conditions.   Due to the lack of recent water quality information, and due to previous assessments (see above) which suggest impairments to the aquatic communities of Calmus Creek, additional monitoring of water quality and the aquatic communities is justified.
