4 Stream use assessments.

Basis for Assessment

Used results of the four DNR stream use assessments (3 in 1990; 1 in 1992) and results of ISU survey by Olson in 1984 to assess support of the Class B(LR) aquatic life uses as FST due to (1) presence of 19 species in 1984 survey, including northern pike and several pollution intolerant species (e.g., Iowa darter; blackside darter) and (2) the relatively lack of extensive long-reach channelization downstream from Klemme.   DNR stream use assessments suggest severe habitat modifications, although no fish sampling was conducted in the highest quality reaches downstream from Klemme.   Past samplings by JRO in 1981 and 1984 show that the E.  Branch Iowa River supports a fishable population of northern pike.
