Stream use assessment in Tama county.

Basis for Assessment

[Waterbody segment of Salt Creek created in 1998 to (1) subdivide an excessively long Class B(LR) segment and (2) separate the lower (and often un-wadeable) reaches of Salt Creek from the upper and more easily sampled/assessed reaches.]

Used a review of the field sheet from the October 1992 DNR stream use assessment in Tama County to assess support of the Class B(LR) aquatic life uses as FST due to presence of a slight majority of the expected fish taxa (5 of 8) for streams in the Southern Iowa Rolling Loess Prairies subecoregion.   The field sheet indicates moderate impact to the physical characteristics of this stream from frequent pasturing and removal of natural riparian vegetation and from frequent streambank erosion.   Despite these impacts, the fish community present suggest that this reach of Salt Creek fully supports its Class B(LR) uses.
