Assessment Comments
Stream use assessment in Poweshiek County.
Basis for Assessment
Used results of the August 1994 DNR stream use assessment to assess support of Class B(LR) aquatic life uses as PS due to a habitat score (16) much worse than the overall median habitat score (22) for DNR stream use assessments conducted from 1990-1995. Field sheet indicates extensive channelization with a wide, shallow stream bed with shifting sand substrate. Also mentioned is "extensive" influence of a WWTP on flow or habitat, with some odor and filamentous algae observed. Other comments on field sheet: "very limited habitat." Six fish species captured; one catostomid (quillback) and five relatively pollution tolerant cyrinid species. Segment arbitrarily subidivided due to presence of better quality conditions in headwater reaches.
