Assessment Comments

Stream use assessment in Johnson County.

Basis for Assessment

Continued to use the assessment of support of the Class B(LR) aquatic life uses developed for the 1994 report (=PS).   Review of the field sheet from the May 1992 DNR stream use assessment shows that only three fish species from one family were captured, with a fourth species (carp) observed, in 250 feet of seining.   Several species/genera typcial of Class B(LR) streams in this region were not captured.   Follow-up monitoring is needed to determine the status of aquatic communities and habitats and to determine the degree to which the Class B(LR) uses may be impaired.  [Note:  Knapp Creek was sampled at this location in July 1981 as part of the Iowa State University statewide fish survey (JRO-87-1981).   Six species of fish (all cyprnids) were captured with seines; 4 of the 8 expected fish taxa for this subregion (47f) were present.]
