Assessment Comments
Stream use assessment in Iowa County.
Basis for Assessment
Used a review of the field sheet from the June 1991 DNR stream use assessment SW of Parnell to continue to assess support of the Class B(LR) aquatic life uses as PS due to very poor results of fish sampling (1 species (red shiner)) and indications on field sheet of relatively poor aquatic habitats. Historical monitoring in this reach suggests a potential decline in the biological integrity of this stream. A fish survey conducted in July 1981 (JRO-103-1981) in this waterbody segment showed a relatively diverse fish community of 15 species from 6 families with a majority of the expected fish taxa (6 of 8) for streams in the Southern Iowa Rolling Loess Prairies (47f) present. Follow-up monitoring is needed to better determine the status of the aquatic communities and habitats of this reach of stream. All data upon which this assessment is based are more than 5 years old; thus, assessment category is "evaluated."
