Assessment Comments
Assessment is based on occurrence of a fish kill in August 1999.
Basis for Assessment
[NOTE: For the 2002 report, the previous waterbody segment for North Fork Long Creek (IA 02-IOW-0091-0), which extended 16 miles from its mouth to it headwaters, was split into two subsegments: (1) mouth to unnamed tributary NE of Washington in S1, T75N, R7W (IA 02-IOW-0090-1) and (2) from unnamed tributary to headwaters (IA 02-IOW-0090-2). The assessment refering to the previous 26-mile assessment segment for previous Section 305(b) reports can be found in segment IA 02-IOW-0091-1.]
SUMMARY: The general aquatic life uses remain "partially supported." EXPLANATION: The previous (2000) assessment of the aquatic life uses was based on the occurrence of a fish kill near Ainsworth in August 1999 (see assessment for the 2000 report above). According to IDNR's assessment methodology for Section 305(b) reporting, occurrence of a single pollution-caused fish kill within the most recent three-year period (1999-2001) indicates impairment of the aquatic life uses. Because a pollution-caused fish kill occurred on this stream during the most recent three-year period, the aquatic life uses remain assessed as "partially supported."
