Stream use assessment in 1990.

Basis for Assessment

Used a review of the field sheet from the November 1990 DNR stream use asessment in Des Moines County to continue to assess support of the Class B(LR) aquatic life uses as FST due to (1) presence of a majority of the expected fish taxa (5 of 8) for streams in the Mississippi River portion of the Southern Iowa Rolling Loess Prairies subecoregion (47f) and (2) indications on field sheet of high quality habitats (including very diverse substrates and numerous pool/riffle sequences), lack of channel alterations, and good quality, tree-dominated riparian zone.   Sampling (seining) of the fish community was hindered by rocks and snags.  The data upon which this assesssment are base are more than 5 years old.   Additional monitoring is needed to update this assessment and to determine the status of the aquatic communities and habitats.
