Stream use assessment in Muscatine County.

Basis for Assessment

Used a review of the field sheets from the two November 1990 DNR stream use assessments to continue to assess support of the Class B(LR) aquatic life uses as FST due to (1) presence of moderately diverse fish communities (species/families:   9/4; 11/4) for streams with moderate gradients in the Interior River Lowland ecoregion (72) and (2) presence of a majority of the expected fish taxa (6 of 11 & 7 of 11) for streams in this region.   Field sheets indicate that the primary impacts to the physcial characteristics of this stream reach are frequent streambank erosion and extensive channel alterations, including pasturing of the riparian area and channelization.   The data upon which this assessment is based are over 5 years old.   Additional monitoring is needed to update this assessment and to better determine the status of the aquatic communities and habitats.
