Stream use assessment in 1992.

Basis for Assessment

Used a review of the field sheet from the June 1992 DNR stream use assessment in Winneshiek County to continue to assess support of the Class B(LR) aquatic life uses as FST due to (1) presence of a majority of the expected fish taxa (5 of 9) for streams in the Driftless Area ecoregion and (2) presence of fairly diverse substrates and presence of several pool/riffle sequences.   Relatively few fish species were captured (5 cyprinids and white sucker) (although a DNR fish survey in May 1989 downstream from the Class B(LR)/ Class B(CW) boundary showed a greater diversity with 13 species from 5 families present).   Additional monitoring is needed to update this assessment and to better define the status of the aquatic communities and habitats of this stream reach.
