Basis for Assessment

[Note:  For the 2002 report, the previous waterbody segment IA 01-WPS-0190-2, which extended 28 miles from the upper end of Sweet Marsh to an unnamed tributary in Chickasaw County, was split into four subsegments:  (1) from the upper end of Sweet March Segment C to the Bremer/Chickasaw Co.  line (IA 01-WPS-0190-2), (2) from the Chickasaw/Bremer line to unnamed tributary N of Frederickburg (IA 01-WPS-0190-3), (3) from unnamed tributary north of Frederickburg to Plum Cr.  (IA 01-WPS-0190-4), and (4) from Plum Cr.  to unnamed tributary north of New Hampton (IA 01-WPS-0190-5).   The assessment information above applies to the original 28-mile waterbody segment (IA 01-WPS-0190-0).]

For the 2002 report, the assessment was based on the 1997 data and the aquatic life use support continued to be assessed asfully supported / threatened (=FST), based on a comparison of the F-IBI and BM-IBI scores with biological assessment criteria established specifically for the 2002 Section 305(b) report.  The biological assessment criteria were determined from a statistical analysis of data collected at stream ecoregion reference sites from 1994-2001.
