French Creek IA 01-UIA-248
from mouth (T99N R5W S1 Allamakee County) to confluence with French Creek - West Branch (T99N R23W S23 Allamakee County)
Assessment Comments
Assessment is based on DNR biocriteria sampling and a 2002 DNR summary of trout reproduction. See attached document for details..
Basis for Assessment
SUMMARY: The Class B(CW) coldwater aquatic life uses remain assessed as "fully supported." Fish consumption uses are "not assessed." EXPLANATION: Based on the assessment developed for the 2000 report (see above), and based on an updated summary of trout reproduction in Iowa streams prepared by the DNR Fisheries Bureau in April 2002, the Class B(CW) uses remain assessed as "fully supported." According to this summary, this reach of French Creek is in the category of Iowa trout streams that have fairly consistent natural reproduction and are capable of maintaining a viable population for the target trout species without any stocking.
The information upon which the previous assessment of fish consumption uses was based was collected in 1996. These data are now considered too old (greater than five years) for characterizing current water quality conditions.
