Assessment Comments
Two stream use assessments in Winneshiek County.
Basis for Assessment
Used a review of the field sheets from the May 1990 DNR stream use assessments in Winneshiek County to continue to assess support of the Class B(LR) aquatic life uses as FST due to (1) presence of a slight majority of the expected fish taxa (5 of 9 at both sites) and (2) indications of very high quality aquatic habitats and good quality riparian corridor due to diverse to very diverse substrates with several pool/riffle sequences, and only minor impacts to the physical characteristics of this stream. Seining likely hindered by abundance of rocky substrates. The data upon which this assessment is based are more than 5 years old. Additional monitoring is needed to update this assessment and to better determine the status of the aquatic communities and habitats. Sampling with more effective gear type (e.g., BP electrofisher) would very likely produce additional fish taxa.
