Assessment Summary

The presumptive Class A1 use was assessed as “not supported” due to levels of indicator bacteria (E. coli) that exceeded state water quality criteria. The presumptive Class BWW1 use was assessed as “WINOFI” based on biological sampling data. Note: A TMDL for nitrate and pathogen indicators (E. coli) for the Raccoon River basin was prepared by DNR and approved by EPA in June 2008. Because this TMDL covers the Section 303(d) impairment identified for this segment (E. coli), this waterbody was placed in IR Category 4a (impaired; TMDL approved).
