Assessment Comments

Assessment is based on results of fish tissue (RAFT) monitoring in 1999 near Red Oak.

Basis for Assessment

SUMMARY:  The Class B(WW) aquatic life uses remain "not assessed."  Fish consumption uses remain assessed (monitored) as "fully supported / threatened" based on results of U.S.  EPA / IDNR fish contaminant (RAFT) monitoring near Red Oak in 1999.

EXPLANATION:  The Class B(WW) uses remain "not assessed" due to the lack of water quality data or information for this segment upon which to base an assessment (see assessment for the 2000 report).   Fish consumption uses remain assessed as "fully supported / threatened" based on results of the U.S.  EPA/IDNR fish tissue (RAFT) monitoring near Red Oak in 1999 that showed a level of chlordane in the composite sample of channel catfish fillets slightly greater than the IDNR level of concern.   This level was just over half the FDA action level for chlordane (see assessment for the 2000 report for more information).
