Assessment Comments
Three 1991 stream use assessment sites: two in Delaware County and one in Clayton County.
Basis for Assessment
Used a review of the field sheets from the October 1991 DNR stream use assessments in Clayton and Delaware counties to continue to assess support of the Class B(LR) aquatic life uses as FST due to (1) presence of a majority of the expected fish taxa (5 of 9 and 7 of 9) for Class B(LR) streams in the Driftless Area ecoregion (52) and (2) indications of average to very high quality aquatic habitats. Fish community diversity (species/families, dstr->upstr: 9/1; 10/1) were relatively low for streams in this region, but, according to notes on field sheets, seining was difficult due to presence of rocky substrates. Field sheets indicate that pasturing of the riparian corridor, along with streambank erosion, are the primary impacts to the physical characteristics of this stream. The data upon which this assessment is based are more than 5 years old. Additional monitoring is needed to update this assessment and to better determine the status of the aquatic communities and habitats.
