Assessment Comments
One 1991 stream use assessment south of Elkport in Clayton County.
Basis for Assessment
Used a review of the field sheet from the October 1991 DNR stream use assessment in Clayton County to change the assessment of support of the Class B(WW) aquatic life uses from FST to "not assessed" due to the lack of sufficient information on aquatic communities. The field sheet indicates exceptionally high quality aquatic habitats, including very diverse substrates, numerous pool/riffle sequences, and only isolated impacts to the physical characteristics of this stream due to pasturing of the riparian zone and streambank erosion. Yet, only 5 cyprinid species were collected due to difficulty of seining deep water habitats. Additional monitoring is needed to better determine the status of the aquatic communties of this stream and to provide the information needed to develop an accurate assessment of support of the Class B(WW) uses.
