Assessment Comments

Monitored in 1990 and 1992 by ISU as part of the Clean Lakes Classification study (1994) and also monitored in 1996 for fish tissue (RAFT sampling).

Basis for Assessment

Used assessments of support of the Class A primary contact recreation uses (=FST) and Class B(LW) aquatic life uses (=FST) developed for the 1994 report.   Based on results of sampling for the 1996 Regional Ambient Fish Tissue (RAFT) monitoring program, assessed fish consumption uses as FS:  levels of all contaminants in the composite samples of fillets of largemouth bass and carp were well-below 1/2 the respective FDA action levels.   The March/April 1998 Iowa Conserationist notes that Lake Manawa provide good angling opportunities for bullheads, yellow bass, walleye/saugeye, channel catfish, and crappie.   Assessments of support reviewed by the DNR Fisheries Bureau in 1998.
