Assessment Comments

Assessment based on results of a May 1988 IDNR stream use assessment conducted in Harrison/Shelby counties.

Basis for Assessment

Continued to use the assessment of support of the Class B(LR) aquatic life uses developed for the 1996 report (=PS).   A review of field notes from the 1988 Section 24 DNR stream use assessments shows a fish community in Mosquito Creek that contains a majority of the expected species/ /genera of Class B(LR) streams in the Loess Hills & Rolling Prairie region, but only cyprinid (minnow) species; none of the catfishes or sunfishes typical of the Class B(LR) streams in this region were taken in the three May 1988 seine collections (1.75 mi N of Panama, N edge of Panama, and 1 mi S of Persia).  Additional monitoring is needed to update and better define the status of the aquatic species and habitats of this stream and to determine the degree to which the Class B(LR) uses may be impaired.   The data upon which this assessment is based are more than 10 years old; thus, the 305(b) assessment category is considered "evaluated."
