Assessment Comments
Stream use assessment in Clayton County.
Basis for Assessment
Used a review of the field sheet from the November 1991 DNR stream use assessment in Clayton County to change the assessment of support of the Class B(LR) aquatic life uses from FST to "not assessed" due to the lack of sufficient information for developing an assessment of use support. Alothough the field sheet indicates habitat qualty far above average -- with very diverse substrates, numerous pool/riffle sequences, and no impacts to the physical characteristics or riparian corridor of this stream-- only 4 species from 2 families were captured, probably due to difficulty of seining fish from coarse substrates. This fish community diversity is considerably below that expected in the Driftless Area ecoregion and in streams with high quality habitats. Additional monitoring is needed to better determine the status of the aquatic communities of this stream and to provide the information needed to develop an accurate assessment of the support of the Class B(LR) uses.
