Jordan Creek IA 06-SOL-1677
mouth to trib S10T83NR43W Monona Co.
Assessment Comments
Assessment based on results of IDNR stream use assessment conducted in Monona county.
Basis for Assessment
Downgraded the assessment of support of the Class B(LR) aquatic life uses developed for the 1994 report (FST) to PS due the number of diseased fish. This reach of Jordan Creek has above average aquatic habitats, due primarily to the lack of disburbance of the relatively wide riparian corridor. The relatively few fish species captured (5) are typical of the turbid streams in the Loess Hills portion of the Loess Hills and Rolling Prairies (47e) subecoregion. Four of 7 of the expected fish taxa for this subecoregion were present. The presence of "numerous" fish with parasites (primarily anchor worm) suggests a potential impairment of the Class B(LR) aquatic life uses. Follow-up monitoring is needed to determine the status of the aquatic communities and to determine the degree to which the Class B(LR) uses may be impaired.
