Assessment Comments

Monitored in 1990 by ISU as part of the Clean Lakes Classifcation study; in 1993 & 1995 for surveys of Water Supply Reservoirs (Miller & Kennedy 1993, 1995); and RAFT Monitoring in 1995.

Basis for Assessment

Used assessments of support of the Class A primary contact recreation, Class B(LW) aquatic life, Class C drinking water, and fish consumption uses developed for the 1994 and 1996 reports (all uses assessed as fully supporting (=FS)).   These assessments were reviewed by the DNR Fisheries Bureau in 1998.   The March/April 1998 Iowa Conservationist notes that West Okoboji supports good to excellent angling opportunities for smallmouth bass, yellow perch, muskellunge, and northern pike.
