Assessment Comments

Assessment is based on results of IDNR stream use assessment conducted in Clay county and on the reports of fish kills in August 1985, August 1988, and September 1995.

Basis for Assessment

Used occurrence of three fish kills over the last 10 years to assess support of the Class B(LR) aquatic life uses as PS.   Fish kills were reported in August 1985, August 1988, and September 1995 for this stream.   Kills in 1985 and 1988 were both attributed to animal wastes.   High levels of ammonia and/or oxygen demanding materials in animal wastes are believed to be responsible for the kills.
