Assessment Comments

Assessment based on results of July 1994 IDNR stream use assessment conducted in Plymouth county.

Basis for Assessment

Used a review of the field sheet from the July 1994 DNR stream use assessment near Kingsley to change the assessment from FST to PS due to (1) below average diversity of the fish community (3 species; 1 family) for streams in the NW Iowa Loess Prairies, and (2) less than a majority of the expected fish taxa (2 of 9) for stream in this subecoregion.   Comments on field sheet suggest that good habitat exists, but few species found, possibly due to displacement of fish by recent flooding.   Follow-up monitoring is needed to better define the status of the aquatic communities and habitats and to determine the degree to which the Class B(LR) uses may be impaired.
